The Porte de Versailles, a dynamic crossroads of Paris 15

The Porte de Versailles is located in the 15th arrondissement, i.e. southwest of Paris and north of Issy-les-Moulineaux. It is served by a number of public transportation systems: metro line 12 with the Porte de Versailles station, tramway lines T3a and T2 and bus line 80. The noctilien lines N13, N62 and N145 operate at night.

The history of the Porte de Versailles

Louis-Philippe I, King of the French from 1830 to 1848, planned to build a fortification around Paris in order to protect the capital from foreign invasions. The fortification of Thiers was then built between 1841 and 1844. It had 17 gates, one of which was named Versailles Gate because it allowed access to the city of Versailles.
Following the modernization of the artillery, the enclosure was decommissioned by the law of 19 April 1919 and destroyed. The strip of land that surrounded the Thiers enclosure was rehabilitated into various works. Thus the Exhibition Centre was created in 1923.
A few years later, the city created a square on the site of the former foundations of the Porte de Versailles. This was named Place de la Porte de Versailles on April 11, 1932.
In 2006, the crossroads underwent major work to integrate the T3a tramway.
